Let’s look at why confidence is so important to getting what you want out of life. Self-confidence gives you the courage to overcome obstacles, mistakes, and setbacks you may encounter. It also helps you dream, plan, and follow your passions. While self-confidence is often mentioned as an asset in your professional life, it’s even more important in your everyday, personal life.

Body language is the first thing people will notice about you. Would most people say that you come across as confident? If not, what is your body language saying to them?

When I am uncomfortable in my surroundings you will see me heading towards the back of the room, trying to stay in the back ground so I don’t draw any attention to myself. I’ve noticed when I see this behavior in other people, I automatically assume they are snobby, stuck up and not very friendly. I do not want others to think that about me. So, now when I go somewhere that I might be uneasy at first, I make sure to intentionally smile, stand a little taller and say hi to others around me.  When I make this effort, I become more comfortable faster, help others to be at ease and usually make a new friend in the process. It’s a win/win!

Every day you must make decisions. Each decision requires confidence in ourselves to make the choices that are right for us. For many years I relied on others to make decisions for me. Especially when it came to bigger, life changing decisions. When I gave away my power because of the lack of confidence I would end up feeling depressed, resentful and wanted to run away.

After some coaching I realized that I had the power of choice. I didn’t have to depend on others, I wasn’t trapped in my job and I could make changes to my life. Just knowing I had choices and if I didn’t like the choice, I made I could change it again was mind blowing to me. Starting to make decisions was a huge confidence booster. What is a decision you could make today that would help boost your confidence?

Having self-confidence to begin with, helps to put you in a position where you can take care of things more easily.

You need confidence for many reasons:

  1. Confidence will help you achieve your goals quicker and easier.
  2. It helps you take action because you know you can succeed at whatever you set out to do.
  3. Confidence helps you overcome your fears and face what you need to move past the fear.
  4. When presented with choices in life, your confidence lets you know the difference between what is right and wrong, when to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ and give you the self-control you need to follow your own path.
  5. Confidence gives you the knowledge and belief in yourself to do what it takes to succeed.
  6. Confidence gives you greater self-esteem making you happier with yourself and others.
  7. With confidence there is less stress and unnecessary drama in your life.
  8. Having confidence gives you more energy and motivation to pursue what’s most important to you.

Confidence is needed in every area of your life. It gives you the belief that you can go for what you desire and achieve it. It helps you stay focused, avoid procrastinating and indecision, and get through difficult times.
